Dorothy Lou Grooms was born in Thayer, Missouri, the daughter of Lehman Whiteside and Leona Stroud Whiteside on June 28, 1929 and departed this life on July 15, 2019 at Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains, Missouri, just a few weeks after her 90th birthday.
She was united in marriage to Cecil Grooms on October 20, 1991 at their farm in Couch, Missouri. He preceded her in death on April 9, 2012.
She is survived by her two daughters, Mickey Fisher and husband, David, of Springfield, Missouri and Kelley Richards and husband, Stan, of Branson, Missouri; three step children, Melisa Daily and husband, Travis, of Conway, Missouri, Stuart Grooms and wife, Georgia, of Gladstone, Missouri and Brian Grooms of Kansas City, Missouri; one sister, Pat McAbee of Thayer, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Jenny Zogg, J.D. Zogg, Justin Brock, Joel Baca, Rachel Brown, Kevin Grooms, Eric Grooms, Casey Cornelius and Jared Daily; nieces and nephews; other relatives; and countless friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Grooms; her parents, Lehman and Leona Whiteside; and one son, John Roger.
Dorothy was a Christian and member of the First United Methodist Church in Thayer, Missouri. She was a homemaker, dedicated to taking care of her husband, children and their home.
She enjoyed reading all sorts of books and loved her many cats.
Dorothy will be remembered as a loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister and a friend to all. She will truly be missed by all that knew her.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri with Pastor Pam Ekey officiating.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 20, 2019 from 1:00 PM until the service time at the chapel.
Interment will be held at the Moten Cemetery in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas with arrangements under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer, Missouri.
