Allan Ray Ninness was born the son of Allen Woodrow Ninness and Frances Catherine Seitz Ninness on October 10, 1943, in Evansville, Indiana and departed this life on March 16, 2019 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of 75 years.
He was married to Susan Imogene Shero on October 10, 1965.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Imogene Ninness of the home, in Gatewood, Missouri; two sons, Allan Craig Ninness and wife, Karen of Eldorado, Illinois, and Brian William Ninness and wife, Christina of North Richland Hills, Texas ; two grandsons, Jacob Allan Ninness and Adam Craig Ninness, both of Eldorado, Illinois; and one step-grandson, Ben Alberding of North Richland Hills, Texas. He is also survived by three sisters and two brothers; many nieces and nephews; other relatives; and countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Frances Ninness.
After earning his bachelor’s degree in General Agriculture, he, along with his wife, owned and operated Ninness Greenhouse and Nursery in Eldorado, Illinois for over 30 years. While running the greenhouse, Allan also was employed as a teacher at the Golconda, Illinois Job Corp Center.
He loved to raise plants and animals, and over the years,. he raised many exotic animals. After moving to Gatewood, Missouri in 1990, he began raising cattle.
In his spare time, Allan liked sailing, camping, hiking and traveling. He also liked to sing and sang in the Barbershop Harmony Society, singing is quartets as well as chorus.
Allan was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Thayer; there he was very active in the church, singing in the choir and teaching sunday school.
Allan will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services for Allan Ray Ninness were held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri with Pastor Pam Ekey officiating.
The family received friends from 11:30 a.m. to service time on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Carter Funeral Home in Thayer.
Local arrangements were under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Thayer.
Additional services were held in Eldorado, Illinois with burial in White County Memorial Gardens in Carmi, Illinois on Saturday, March 23, 2019.
