Silas Armstrong

  Silas Armstrong, 97, of Ash Flat, Arkansas, passed away September 13, 2024, at his daughter’s home in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas. He was born April 17, 1927, in Hardy, Arkansas to Nathan and Creola (Ahardt) Armstrong. Silas was married on November 10, 1948, to Fern Anderson in Hardy, Arkansas. This blessed union lasted sixty-nine years until Fern passed away in 2017. 

    Silas joined the Army-Air Force in October of 1945, and went to the US Army Air Force Base Unit in Barksdale, California. In his younger years, Silas was a mechanic and carpenter. Silas and Fern made a living from flipping houses. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his true joy was music. Silas could play many instruments but favored playing the guitar and singing. His family has many fond memories of him working on old cars, playing his guitar and singing.

    Silas is survived by his daughter, Claudia Freeman; daughter-in-law, Lana Armstrong; granddaughter, Konnie Haney (Kenny); grandson, Brad Armstrong (Vickie); granddaughter, Bev Bailey (Sean); great-grandchildren; Kelsey Hopper (Josh), Kaitlyn Alford (Jacob), Landen Bailey (Haylee), Payton Armstrong, and Laken Martin (Baye); great-great-grandchildren, Whitleigh Hopper, Maverick Silas Alford, and Addilynn Bailey; nephew Davie Earls; special friends Junior Wiles and Bub Smith.

    Silas is preceded in death by his parents, Nathan and Creola Armstrong; wife, Fern Armstrong; son, Ernie Armstrong; grandson, Anthony Smith, sister, Iva Earls, and son-in-law Thomas Freeman.

  Funeral services will be private. Interment will be at Riverside cemetery in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas.
