Osker Cleatis Boyd was born the third child of Luther and Agnes (Lutz) Boyd on April 3, 1923, in Shattuck, Oklahoma, and departed this life on April 1, 2017, in Thayer, Missouri, at the age of 93 years and 11 months.
He was united in marriage on June 20, 1963, at Winnemucca, Nevada, to Peggy Jean Gray, who preceded him in death on March 30, 2014.
He is survived by his children: Lou Ann Bonser and husband, Bill of Klamath Falls, Oregon, Jack Boyd and wife, Kathy of Guymon, Oklahoma, Mike Boyd and wife, Penny of Durham, Oklahoma, Tammy Dorton of Thayer, Missouri, and Gary Boyd and wife, Becky of Merriott Island, Florida; grandchildren, Becky Dye and husband, Bill of Minnesota, Billy Bonser and wife, Linda of Oregon, Brenda Schwartz and husband, Tim of Minnesota, Jackie Francis and husband, Clay of Texas, Trenton Boyd and wife, Mendy of Texas, Ruth Dorton of New York, Gregory, Ryan, Patrick, and Aaron Boyd, all of Florida; a host of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Peggy Jean (Gray) Boyd; his parents; all three brothers and their wives: Wilson Boyd and Opal, then Hazel, Irvin Boyd and Earlene, and Raymond Boyd and Eva Lou; all of his uncles and aunts; many cousins and friends; several nieces and nephews; and one grandson, Robert Boyd.
Cleatis was a self-employed carpenter and cabinet-maker for many years. He was a maintenance worker for a hospital in Nevada and a college in California. He was employed at Cover Lumber Company in the 70’s. He retired in 1985 from Tonkawa Oil Refinery in Arnett, Oklahoma, then returned to Thayer in 1998. He was an active member of the Elks Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars until his health declined.
He will be remembered for always wearing overalls, his woodworking skills, his fondness of people and his happy disposition.
Graveside services for Osker Cleatis Boyd will be held, Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at 11:00 AM at the Arytown Cemetery, near Thayer.
Burial will be in Arytown Cemetery under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.
