Mose Harpole

Mose Harpole was born the son of  Nathaniel Harpole and Elizabeth (Sides) Harpole on April 15, 1913 in Ackerman, Mississippi and departed this life November 18, 2012 at Eaglecrest Nursing and Rehab Center in Ash Flat, Arkansas at the age of 99 years.

He was united in marriage on March 10, 1934 in Helena, Arkansas to June Durham.

He is survived by his wife of 78 years, June Harpole, of the home in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; one son, George C. Harpole and wife, Soo, of White Hall, Arkansas; one grandson, George G. Harpole and wife, Jennifer, of Alvin, Texas; one great grandson, Colton Hunter Harpole of Alvin, Texas and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathaniel and Elizabeth Harpole; ten brothers and three sisters.

Mose starting working as a deck hand at the age of 15 and continued his job on the tow boat, retiring as First Mate after many years on the river.  In 1971, he and June moved with their son, George, to Mammoth Spring, Arkansas.  After retirement, they shared a new hobby of restoring antique furniture.  They enjoyed looking for old furniture in flea markets and completely bringing it back to life.

He was a member of the Methodist Church in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas and will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  He will truly be missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.

Funeral Services for Mr. Harpole will be at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri with Pastor J.R. McElhannon officiating.  Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, November 20, from 6:00 until 7:00 PM at the Funeral Home.
