Mildred Massey

Mildred Massey was born the daughter of Fred Hatfield and Ethel (Waits) Hatfield on June 29, 1942, in Fulton County, Arkansas, and departed this life on September 17, 2016, in Thayer, Missouri, at the age of 74 years.

She was united in marriage January 27, 1959, at Batesville, Arkansas to Bobby Ray Massey, who preceded her in death on November 16, 1988.

She is survived by three sons, Greg Massey of Sage, Arkansas, David Massey and wife, Paula of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas and Fred Massey of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, Dawn Westmoreland, Jawnie Shaw, Tom Massey, Heather Massey, Garrett Massey, A.J. Smith, and Aaron Smith; nine great grandchildren, Peyton, Paislee, Sydney, Perri, Whitley, Layken, Jackson, Maddie, and Molly; one sister, Barbara Bullard of Mountain View, Arkansas; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Ethel Hatfield and husband, Bobby Ray Massey.

Besides being a homemaker, Mildred was a hair-dresser and caregiver for children in this area. She was gifted with a musical talent and will be remembered as organist for Carter Funeral Home for many years.

Mildred was a member of Clifton Free Will Baptist Church. She was deeply devoted to her family, an excellent cook and cherished time spent cooking for them and family get-to-gethers. She will truly be missed by all that knew and loved her.

Private graveside services will be Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the Field Creek Cemetery near Mammoth Spring, Arkansas.

The body will lie in state at Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer on Tuesday, from 8:00 AM until 1:00 PM.

Burial will be in Field Creek Cemetery under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.

    Mildred’s Family:
    So sorry to hear about the loss of Mildred. I knew Mildred and Grandchildren when she attended Shilo Baptist Church in Rover. Mildred had such a beautiful sweet spirit! Our loss is Heavens gain..I can just hear her playing the piano and singing!

    My thoughts and prayers go out to Dawn, Jawnie, and the whole family. Mammaw Mildred was a truly amazing woman. Always had a big smile and hug ready for you. She was loved by so many and will be terribly missed. Praying for peace and comfort, as only God can provide.

    I am so sorry about Mamaw. Our kids are better people because of the time they spent with her. I will always remember her at school functions sitting with all of her little ones filling the bleacher. Some where hers and some not but the love shown was the same.

      Hey Cricket, this is Jawnie. Thank you so much for the very pretty wreath, that was right up Mammaws alley, she loved things like that. And she truly loved all her babies!!
      She is in her happy place now and not suffering anymore.
