Kenneth Roberts

Kenneth Wayne Roberts, son of Lovel Allen and Hattie Marie Roy Roberts, was born July 2, 1940, at Couch, Missouri. He went home to be with the Lord September 2, 2017, at the age of seventy-seven years.

He was united in marriage October 15, 1960, at Lebanon, Missouri, to Betty Johnson. To this union four lively children were born, full of love and wander.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Betty Roberts of the home in Alton, Missouri; four children, Shelia Roberts and special friend, Kris Cotham of Thayer, Missouri, Kimber Roberts and wife, Ramona of Couch, Missouri, Sonyia Gower and husband, Mark of Mountain Home, Arkansas, and Kalan Roberts and wife, Alicia of Alton, Missouri; twelve grandchildren, Josh and wife, Joanne, Emily and husband, Andy, Anthony and wife, Lyndsey, Kenny, Seth and wife, Jessica, Monica and husband, Michael, Serena, Zachary, Kyle, Alyssa and husband, Blake, MaKaylah and Sawyer; seven great-grandchildren, Caden, Jillian, Lydia, Juliet, Ella, Eimear, and Jennings; one brother, J.D. Roberts of Couch, Missouri; one aunt, Inis Roberts of Thayer, Missouri; a host of cousins, nieces; nephews; in-laws; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lovel and Hattie Roberts; one brother, Dale Roberts and one sister, Rita Doris Roberts.

Kenneth began his elementary education at Dry Creek Country School where he graduated eighth grade. He finished his education at Couch High School, graduating with the class of 1958, which he affectionately called “Couch University”.

Kenneth was inherent to work. Starting at a young age, he helped his father on the farm milking cows, baling hay and hoeing cotton and corn. At age15, he worked for Pigman Ranch.

Throughout his working career, he was a truck driver for a limestone company, worked on road construction as a bridge builder, drove stock trailers hauling cattle and hogs to numerous states, cut logs, hauled stave blocks and “starvation sticks” or cord wood, hauled hay, was a beef cattle operator, and retired from Missouri Department of Transportation in 1999, after twenty-two years of service.

Kenneth was an avid outdoorsman. His favorite sport was trapping and he also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was of the Baptist faith and came to know the Lord as his personal Savior and friend.

Family was Kenneth’s treasure in life. Even as death drew near and the family surrounded his bed, memories were vivid as he recalled special time spent with his wife, children and grandchildren.

His devotion to family, his laugh, loving nature, and willingness to help others, will always be remembered by his family, friends, and the community in which he lived.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at 1:00 PM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri, with Brother Jason Roberts and Brother James Ray officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Carter Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Burial will be on the Roberts Family Farm near Alton with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.
