Funeral services for Joseph Edward Brigman, Jr., 87, West Plains, Missouri, will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at Carter Funeral Home Chapel, West Plains, with Reverend Ron Richardson officiating, under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc., West Plains.

He was born the son of the late Joseph Edward Brigman, Sr. and Hazel Wells Brigman on May 6, 1925 in Covington, Tennessee and died October 19, 2012 in West Plains, Missouri.

He was united in marriage March 19, 1950 in Hernando, Mississippi to Artie Mae Thrasher.

He is survived by his wife, Artie Mae Thrasher Brigman, of the home, West Plains, Missouri; two children, Linda Brigman Johnson and husband, Ricky, Corinth, Mississippi, and Tommy Brigman and wife, Christina, West Plains, Missouri; two brothers, David Brigman and wife, Rosemary, San Antonio, Texas and Gordon Brigman and wife, Stephanie, Germantown, Tennessee; one sister, Pat Hornsby and husband, Jerry, Germantown, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Brian Brigman and wife Jennifer, West Plains, Missouri, Jason Brigman and wife, Lesley, West Plains, Missouri, Kelly Milligan and wife, Stacey, Greencastle, Pennsylvania, and Hollie Bishop and husband, Greg, Iuka, Mississippi; seven great grandchildren, Garrett Brigman, Aiden Brigman, Dylan Brigman, and Dakotah Brigman, all of West Plains, Missouri, Chloe Milligan, Bethlehem, Georgia, Christopher Milligan, upper state New York, and Milli Bishop, Iuka, Mississippi; one great great grandson, Ethan Milligan, Bethlehem, Georgia, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church in Corinth, Mississippi. He served his country in the United States Navy during WW II. After his service career he was a dairy farmer until his retirement. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather, and brother, and friend to many and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Union Hill Cemetery Fund and can be left at the funeral home.

Visitation will be held Monday, October 22, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home Chapel, West Plains.

Burial will be in Union Hill Cemetery, Howell County, Missouri, under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc., West Plains. Military rites will be performed by the West Plains Honor Guard and the Missouri Funeral Honors Program.

    our sincerest love sympathy and bereavement are with you artie. you can never replace your best friend . I remember taking care of you and Joe both when I was working home health . You both always held a special place in my heart. Tommy and Christine , Linda and Rick nothing can replace dad he was a special man my heart and prayers are with you all on this sad day. May God give you all the strength to pick up and go on with your life that is what Joe would want you to do . He loved life so keep living for him for through you and yours will he continue to live . If there is anything I can do just let me know.
