Jerry Vaughn Smith passed away April 1, 2022 in Salem, AR at the age of 75. He was born April 1, 1947 to Herbert and Iva (Powell) Smith in Mammoth Spring, AR.
Jerry loved his hometown. Jerry served as mayor of Mammoth Spring, was an active member of the Lions Club, served as Justice of the Peace on the Fulton County Quorum Court, and was a member of the Fulton County Hospital Board. He was extremely active in the George D. Hay Foundation and all community activities. He worked several years in construction building houses. At age 65 he earned his real estate license and found yet another way to assist folks in his community.
Jerry was a Christian man and a member of the Pilot Church of Christ. He was a quiet man with a strong presence.
He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, JoKay Wilkerson Smith.
Jerry married Arlene Faye Harris Humphries on June 9, 2018 at their home in Glencoe, AR. Together these two cherished their time going to grandchildren’s ball games and rodeos, traveling around the area, working real estate, and going out to eat. Jerry was a blessing to the Humphries family, and they loved him very much.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene; three children: Heath (and wife Kelli), Lance (and wife Mandy), Misti (and husband Ross); nine grandchildren: Quincy, Rhett, Kylee,Tressie, Kelsey, Cooper, Taci, Graci, and Harris; special cousins: Barbara Nicholson, who Jerry loved as a sister, and Wayne Smith, who donated a kidney to Jerry; brother-in-law, Jack Haney; sister-in-law, Suzanne (and her husband Jack) Callahan; many precious nieces and nephews; other relatives; and a multitude of great friends.
Jerry will truly be missed by his family and the community in which he lived.
Funeral services for Jerry Vaughn Smith will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 4, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home in Thayer. Missouri.
Interment will be on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 in Thayer Cemetery in Thayer, Missouri with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer, Missouri.

Jerry was my first cousin . My husband and I saw Jerry and Arlene in November had a short but great visit with them both! COVID was still on the scene. Jerry and I had had great and fun times during those summer visits . From California every summer. Those memories are precious to me.

I am saddened to have lost such a dear friend. I have many fond memories of Jerry throughout our school years and beyond. Although I haven’t seen him in awhile, I have thought of him often. God bless you, Arlene and the rest of the family. You’re all in my thoughts and prayers.
