Irvon Henry Strong was born the son of Samuel Joseph Strong and Martha (Smith) Strong on September 26, 1918, in Ozark County, Missouri, being the sixth of eight children. The angels came for him on July 1, 2013, at The Maples Health and Rehabilitation Center in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of 94 years.
Irvon is survived by his children, Don Strong and wife, Marrita of Springfield, Missouri, Shirley Schroder of Dalhart, Texas, Linda Goodman of Springfield, Missouri, and Jan Bernier of Lebanon, New Hampshire; three stepdaughters, Karen Tanner, Kathy Walker, and Debbie Copus; ten grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; one brother, Birvon Strong of West Plains, Missouri; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Irvon was an equipment operator for the City of West Plains, retiring after many years of service.
He was a member of the Church of Christ in Thayer, Missouri and will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and a loyal friend. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the Church of Christ in Thayer, Missouri with Shawn Deree officiating.
The family will receive friends Friday, July 5, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer.
Burial will be in the Oak Lawn Cemetery at West Plains, Missouri with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory, to the Paragould Children’s Home, and left at the funeral home.
