Herbert Gaines, Jr. was born the son of Herbert Gaines, Sr. and Anna Marie Stroup Gaines on December 5, 1932, in Kerwin, Kansas, and departed this life September 14, 2017, at Shady Oaks Health Care in Thayer, Missouri, at the age of 84 years.
He was united in marriage on July 17, 1955, at Thayer, Missouri to Eva Belle Hubbard, who preceded him in death on June 20, 2012.
He is survived by five children, Terry Gaines of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, Peggy Stanley and husband, Mike of Highland, Arkansas, Paul Gaines and wife, Lanae of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, Lindal Gaines and wife, Laura of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas and Keith Gaines of Dallas, Texas; seventeen grandchildren, Corey, Jarad, Micaiah, Ruth, Rebekah, Rachel, Michael, Sarah, Hannah, Jonathan, Jesse, Dustin, Ethan, Jacob, Lashae, Colby and Mason; thirty great-grandchildren; one brother, Victor Gaines of Scranton, Kansas; two sisters, Myrtle Sorrell of Guthrie, Oklahoma and Lois Adkins of Shenandoah, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Anna Gaines; his wife, Eva Gaines; five brothers, Charles, Gordon, Kenneth, Clayton and Ray Gaines; three sisters, Martha East, Leota DuBois and Mae Poulette.
Mr. Gaines was a veteran, proudly serving his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
Herbert loved music and especially enjoyed playing his guitar.
He was a small engine repairman by trade and was employed at Sims Tire Shop for several years.
He was a member of the Mammoth Spring First Baptist Church. He will be remembered as a kind and caring man by his family and all who knew him.
Funeral services for Herbert Gaines, Jr. , age 84, of Thayer, Missouri, will be held Monday, September 18, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri with Brother Mike Stanley officiating.
The family will receive friends on Monday, September 18, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the Carter Funeral Home in Thayer.
Burial will be in Thayer Cemetery in Thayer, Missouri with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.
