James Clifford “Cliff” Stacy was born to Thomas Lindsey Stacy and Effie (Clark) Stacy on October 30, 1920 at Palatka, Arkansas. He departed this life on October 14, 2013 at National Health Care in West Plains, Missouri at the age of 92 years 11 months and 13 days. He was united in marriage on October 8, 1946 to Pauline Smith.

He is survived by one child, Kathleen (Stacy) Niermann of Thayer, Missouri; six grandchildren, Lori Hay and husband, Jeff of College Station, Texas; Cliff Niermann of Thayer, Missouri; Crisann Harp and husband, Glenn of Sheridan, Arkansas; Jill Lawson and husband, David of West Plains, Missouri; Terrah Harper and husband, Jeremy of Republic, Missouri, and Paul Niermann of West Plains, Missouri; seven great grandchildren, Sierra, Christian, Jared, Calynn, Connor, Camden, and Dylan; six great-great grandchildren, Olivia, Landon, Everr, Warren, Payton, and Jaxson; numerous nieces and nephews; all of whom he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of sixty-four years, Pauline; his son-in-law, “Red” Niermann; two granddaughters; one great granddaughter; three sisters, Ethel, Geneva, and Helen; three brothers, Edgar, Acel, and Paul; many cousins and friends.

Cliff spent his adolescent years on the family farm, joining the United States Army in May of 1941. He took basic training in the Philippine Islands, fought there with the 31st Infantry until the surrender on May 6, 1942. He was a suvivor of the “Bataan Death March”, The Hell Ships, and Japanese prison camps for forty-two months. His freedom came by the dropping of the Atomic Bombs on August 6th and 9th in 1945.

He at last returned to his country and family he loved and they lived all over the world on military bases. He left the military in 1958 and settled in St. Louis, Missouri. After retirement from truck driving and owning his own business, Cliff and his wife, Pauline settled in Thayer.

He was a Christian, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and neighbor. Cliff was a member of the Masonic Lodge, VFW, Amvets, American ExPow’s, Teamsters, American Foreign Legion, Independent Order of Foresters, and a Proud Disabled American Veteran of the United States of America.

He will be missed by his country, his family, and all that knew and loved him.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel at Thayer. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1:00 PM until time of the service.

Burial will be Thursday, October 17th at 11:00 AM in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.
