Clifford Smith Scott “Scotty” was born the son of Clarence and Mary (Smith) Scott on April 22, 1911 at Wild Cherry, Arkansas.  He passed away May 1, 2013 at the age of 102 in Alton, Missouri.

He was united in marriage October 6, 1947 in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas to Loyce Thomasson, who preceded him in death August 3, 2008.

He is survived by his son, Larry Scott; daughter-in-law, Sue Scott; two granddaughters, Sarah Blankenship and Lauren Scott; four great granddaughters, Elly Burrell and Anna, Amy, and Austin Blankenship; several nieces, nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one son, Jack Scott; and three brothers, Vessie, Elmer, and Euel Scott.

Scotty started driving commercially at age 13 on a construction job in Arkansas.  His first job in Mammoth Spring was as a bell hop for Culp Hotel for $2.00 a week plus tips. Later, he drove a truck from farm to farm, buying livestock for Sam Swope; was shop foreman for Franz Foods for many years; and during this time, he also had a taxi service.

After World War II, he bought an airplane to taxi passengers.  In this plane, he took Loyce on one of their first dates, with it ending in a tree top.

Scotty and Loyce operated a truck line, hauling for Arkansas Glass.  They also owned and operated Scotty’s Cleaners in Thayer.

At the age of 62, Scotty began hauling crews for Burlington Northern Railroad, continuing this service for 22 years.

After his retirement at age 84, Scotty cared for Loyce until her death in 2008.  The last 2 ½ years of his life, he was lovingly cared for by his son and the staff at Shepherds View Assisted Living in Alton.

Scotty was a dedicated Christian and Bible reader.  He attended the First Baptist Church in Mammoth Spring and in later years, the First Assembly of God in Thayer.

He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandpa. He was always helping those in need, especially as an auto mechanic and was often described by his friends as “the sweetest man.”

Funeral Services for Mr. Scott will be Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel at Thayer, Missouri with Pastor Abel Perez officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home in Thayer on Friday evening, May 3rd from 6:00 until 7:30 PM.

Burial will be in the Thayer Cemetery.
