Charles Winfred Hefner was born the son of Charles Wellington Hefner and Lura (Peace) Hefner on August 20, 1921, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, and departed this life February 26, 2015, in Independence, Missouri, at the age of 93 years.

He was united in marriage on July 29, 1942, in Thayer, Missouri, to Neva Mae Tyree who preceded him in death on June 26, 2005.

He is survived by three daughters, Janice Reeder, Lana Stinson, and Francine Hudgens and husband, Steve, all of Independence, Missouri; nine grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lura Hefner; his wife, Neva Hefner; one brother, Hugh Hefner; and two sisters, Mavis Ridge and Marjorie Smith.

Charles was a veteran, proudly serving his country in the United States Army. He was a member of VFW Post 1000 in Independence, Missouri.

He enjoyed working on cars and worked for many years as a mechanic.

In his spare time, he loved getting together with friends for a good game of poker.

He will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather, and will truly be missed by his family and friends.

Graveside services for Mr. Hefner will be held Monday, March 2, 2015, at 11:00 AM in the Thayer Cemetery at Thayer, Missouri, with Erman Croney officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer on Monday morning, March 2nd from 9:00 until 10:30 AM.

Burial will be in the Thayer Cemetery at Thayer, Missouri.

    I am grateful for the life of Mr. Hefner. Thanks to his service and to the service of others in our armed forces, my family and I have been able to lead our lives in freedom and peace.
