Sarah Howell

Sarah Ada Howell, age 45, of St. Louis, Missouri, passed away May 4, 2024, in Kirkwood, Missouri. Sarah was born June 27, 1978, to Paul and Mary Lou (Stafford) Howell in Springfield, Missouri.

Sarah worked at the Jennings and Confluence School Districts in St. Louis, Missouri, as an educator—-teaching, coaching, and assistant principal for 22 years. She had recently been hired by the Hazelwood School District to begin a new chapter in her life.

Sarah was an avid, competitive game player and sports fan, especially the St. Louis Cardinals and Denver Broncos. She was a gifted athlete, participating in many sports throughout her life. Sarah loved the outdoors and enjoyed traveling to various scenic locations.

Sarah loved her family. She had a strong faith in God and believed in the power of prayer. She was known for her bright smile, contagious laugh, quick wit, and generous spirit. She had a multitude of friends, family members, and students who loved her. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her parents Paul and Mary Lou Howell, Thayer, MO; sister Marjorie Howell, Thayer, MO; brother Clayton Howell(Crystal),Thayer, MO; sister Dawn Johnson, (Jeremiah), Gardiner MT; she had special nephews and a niece Casey Howell (Melissa Whitworth), Garden City, MO; Tyler Harkleroad (Kennidy Helmick), Little Rock, AR; Cody Howell (Isaphene Pierce), Koshkonong, MO; Wyatt and Madison Johnson, Gardiner, MT; great-nephews Kayson, Kylyn, Samuel, Ryan, Chancey, and Lane.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Charlotte Childers; her paternal grandparents, Fred and Ada Howell; and several other loved family members.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri. Visitation will be Thursday May 9, 2024, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri.

Interment will be on Saturday, May 11, 2024, in Koshkonong Cemetery, Koshkonong, Missouri with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer, Missouri.

Donna Jean Cook

Donna Jean Cook, 91, of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on May 6, 2024, at the age of 91, at Ashflat, Arkansas. She was born on September 17, 1932, in the Village of Stockton, Illinois to Clarence Kent and Edna (Leopold) Kent.
Donna lived a simple and content life, never needing or wanting things to be fancy. Her favorite hobbies included knitting, puzzle books, puzzles, and reading Harlequin Romance Books. Always happy and content with life, Donna had a warm and caring personality that endeared her to those around her.

Donna was married twice in her lifetime. Her first husband was Kenneth “Pete” West, and they were married on February 2, 1953, in Pecatonica, Illinois. Her second husband was Hadley Cook, and they were married on April 14, 1962, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Rockford, Illinois. She was a dedicated member of the Union Hill Community Church of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, where she attended for over 30 years. Donna will be remembered for her kind heart, willingness to help others, and her love for animals and her family. She will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

She leaves behind a loving family, including her son James “Jim” West, daughter Cheryl Brown (Mike), and son Danny Cook (Connie). Donna was also a cherished grandmother to Tonya, Jessica, Ronnie, James, Ben, Mary, and Phillip “Phil,” and a doting great-grandmother to Issac Lee, Adalynn, and Koda, brother, Kenneth Kratzer, and her best friend, Ruby Bowers, along with many other loved ones.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth “Pete” West, husband, Hadley Cook, daughter, Misty Dawn Kelley, and stepdaughter, Beverly Ward.

Scotty Dale Simer, age 53, of Thayer, Missouri, passed away May 4, 2024, at his home. Scotty was born March 18, 1971, in West Plains, Missouri, to Alan and Jean (Crawford) Simer.

Scotty liked to go fishing, hunting, and golfing in his spare time. He loved to talk, tell stories, help others and coach football. He was a very smart, hardworking, selfless person who was proud of the life that he had built and the loved ones he surround himself with. He was a longtime member of the Clifton Masonic Lodge in Thayer, Missouri. He served as Oregon County surveyor for 23 years.

Scotty was a devout believer in God. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

He is survived by four children Eric, of West Plains, Missouri, Isaac, of Thayer, Missouri, Maddy, of Columbia, Missouri and Evan, of St. Louis, Missouri; one granddaughter Emilia Simer; one brother Danny Simer, wife Maggie; two nephews Sam Simer, wife Annalise, and Anthony Braim, wife Bethani; one niece Rachel Braim; a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one sister Vonda Kay Simer Overbeck; and one nephew Tyler Owen Simer.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Thayer Cemetery in Thayer, Missouri. Visitation will be Friday, May 10, from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri.

John David Robinson

John David Robinson from Mammoth Spring, Arkansas was reunited with his wife, Marlene, in Heaven, seven days after her death. He died on April 15, 2024, while walking to his turkey blind on his farm. He was 85 years old.

John David was born on April 17, 1938, in Many Islands, Arkansas. He was the youngest of four children born to Grover and Ruby Robinson. The family moved to Mammoth Spring where he was introduced to Marlene by his friend Bill Russell. He was united in marriage to Marlene Reeves on June 3, 1959, at the First Baptist Church in Mammoth Spring. The couple have two girls, Monica Gail, and Kathryn. John and Marlene were married for 64 years.

John David worked as a carpenter before he was hired at the Mammoth Spring National Fish Hatchery until he retired January 3, 1995, after 29 plus years. He could raise just about any kind of fish and kept Spring River stocked with Bass, Crappie, Tiger Muskie, etc. He was instrumental in raising Stripers for lakes. He was often frustrated when “college” men came and killed the fish he was raising due to their experiments. He was also a cattle farmer and avid hunter. He enjoyed fishing (of course!), along with hunting deer, turkey, pheasants, and quail. He loved fur trapping on the Spring River, especially with his brother, Joe T.

John David is survived by his daughters Monica Gail Andrews (Don) and Kathryn Anderson (Gary), grandsons, Tanner Andrews and Eric Anderson, and a great-grandson, Carson Andrews, nieces, Sue Hampton, and Donna Brooker.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene; sisters, Geneva Whiteside, Cecilia Dukich, and brother, Joseph T. Robinson; niece Shirley Honeycutt; parents, Grover and Ruby Robinson.

Graveside Services will be on Friday, April 19, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at the Thayer Cemetery of Thayer, Missouri.

Delores Susan Midgett Wheeler
Susan M. Wheeler was born December 18, 1953, in Jarvisburg, North Carolina, and departed this life in Foley, Alabama on April 14, 2024. She was united in marriage to Joel Wheeler in August 25, 1973 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
She was survived by her husband of 50 years, Joel Wheeler of Foley, Alabama, one son, Benjamin A. Wheeler and wife, Marilynn of Thayer, Missouri; two daughters Amanda M. Clark and husband, Eric of Brookland, Arkansas, and Rebecca S. Roode and husband Beau of Foley, Alabama; six grandchildren Jordan, Paityn, Kinsey, Savannah, Aubry, and Blakely; two siblings, sister, Pati Doxey of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and brother, Marvin Lee Midgett, III; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin L. Midgett, Jr. and Sylvia Dorla Midgett.
She was a member of the Foley Church of Christ, where her husband is a minister of 27 years. She loved BIG and had a strong belief that every person and thing on this Earth was special because it was made by God and “God don’t make no junk”. Because of the value she saw in others, she set a great example of following and bringing others to Christ. Her motto in life was Philippians 4:13 which states, “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me” and she quoted it often. Sue was a homemaker, and her husband, children and especially grandchildren were her biggest joy. In her younger years, her days were spent taking care of her family, babysitting, crafting, gardening and was well-known in Missouri for her cake and cookie cake-making, along with her decorating skills. She loved teaching Bible class whether it was for children, teenage girls or women. Later in life she continued servicing others through beautiful card making and phone calls. Her family and friends will miss her greatly.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, from 11:30– 1:00 pm, followed by the funeral services at the Foley church of Christ in Foley, Alabama. Minister, Ben Wright will be officiating the services.

The graveside and burial will be held at 11:00am at Thayer Cemetery in Thayer, Missouri, on Monday, April 22, 2024.

Marlene Robinson

Marlene Robinson joined the Choir in Heaven on April 8, 2024 at the age of 82. She was a wonderful Christian wife, mother, and grandmother.

Marlene was born on November 27, 1941, in Camp, Arkansas. She grew up in Thayer, Missouri. She was united in marriage to John David Robinson on June 3, 1959, at the First Baptist Church in Mammoth Spring. The couple have two girls, Monica Gail, and Kathryn. John and Marlene were married 64 years.

Marlene was a homemaker until Gail started Kindergarten. She then started working for Mammoth Spring School as a Kindergarten aide. This job led her to a preschool teaching position for a home based program and center based program through Northcentral Arkansas Development Council. She loved working with children and helping their families.

Marlene loved growing flowers in the yard. Irises were her favorite and she had numerous varieties to enjoy. She also enjoyed raising chickens. She taught Sunday School for many years until her memory faded. During the last few years, Alzheimer’s disease took her memory; however, she still knew all the hymns and enjoyed singing in the choir. Marlene was devoted and faithful to Jesus, her husband, and her family.

Marlene is survived by her husband, John David, daughters Monica Gail Andrews (Don) and Kathryn Anderson (Gary), grandsons, Tanner Andrews and Eric Anderson, a great-grandson, Carson Andrews, and a brother, Larry Reeves (Lois).

Marlene was preceded in death by her father, Earl Reeves, mother, Joyce Rogers, sisters Earlene Simmons and Rudeen Poulette, and a brother, Rudy Reeves.

Graveside Services will be on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at the Thayer, Cemetery. Brother Chris Powers of the First Baptist Church of Mammoth Spring, Missouri, will be officiating.

Cindy Leigh Drye Botard was born the daughter of Billy A and Hazel M Drye on May 30, 1962, in Kansas City, Missouri and died March 5, 2024, in Thayer, Missouri at the age of 61 years.

She is survived by her husband, Elton, of the home in Thayer, Missouri; one daughter, Samantha Leigh Whiteside and husband, Devin of Tulsa, Oklahoma; three stepdaughters, Amanda Crawford and husband Mark of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, Shalyn Barton and husband Sam of Alton, Missouri, Brittany Collins and husband Brent of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; nine grandsons, Christian, Cole, Connor, and Camden Whiteside, Blain and Keaton Nicholson, Kadon Botard and Sagan Taylor, Creek Collins; two granddaughters; Charlotte Whiteside and Willow Collins; and many other cousins, relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Chloe Joy Whiteside, her parents, Billy A and Hazel M Drye and her grandparents, of whom she always had a unique, special relationship with her grandmother Gertie Drye.

Cindy grew up in Kansas City until she was in fourth grade, and then moved back to the family farm in Thayer where she enjoyed playing with her many cousins on the homestead. After graduating high school, Cindy obtained her nursing degree from Southwest Missouri State University.

She was an actively involved mom and always let Samantha participate in all the activities she wanted, playing chauffeur whenever needed. She was the PTA parent, classroom mom, and happy to host parties and play dates.

Cindy and Elton married on her birthday, May 30, in 1997. She liked to joke and tease that they got married on her birthday so there were less dates to remember. Cindy worked as a registered nurse until surviving breast cancer at 32. She worked in home health and touched many patients’ lives over the years.

Following this she was instrumental in assisting Elton in their woodworking business, Oak River Woodworking, as they traveled the country attending many arts and crafts fairs. Her artistic talent was rivaled only by her mother’s. In her later years, she lovingly cared for her mother and father as they aged.

She will be missed by all who knew her, most of all her family.

Rudene Reeves Poulette was born April 14^th, 1947, to Earl Reeves and Joyce Rogers Reeves in Thayer, Missouri and entered the gates of Heaven on March 5^th, 2024, in Jonesboro, Arkansas at the age of 76. She was united in marriage on August 20^th, 1964, in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas to Lonnie Poulette. Together they were blessed with three children. Rudene was a simple woman who selflessly cared for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In her younger years she enjoyed gardening, days at the lake, cooking, and decorating for holidays. But what she loved the most was spending time with her family.

Rudene is survived by her husband Lonnie Poulette of the home in Bay, Arkansas, three children; Denita Flynn of West Plains, Missouri, Donnie Poulette (Joy) of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas , and Deanna Poulette of Bay, Arkansas, one brother, Larry Reeves (Louis) of Phoenix, Arizona, one sister, Marlene Robertson (John) of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, nine grandchildren; Lorie Huckabee (Chad), Terry Flynn ( Amber), Casey Poulette (Angel), Vivian Woods (Jordan), Tyler Poulette, Joshua Infranca (McKenzie), Lonnie Infranca, Isaiah Deshazo, and Sammy Poulette, Eleven great-grandchildren; Tyler Huckabee, Matthew Huckabee, Brayden Infranca, Waylon Woods, Raylan Poulette, Gunnar Poulette, Isabella Flynn, Zander Infranca, Everleigh Flynn, Gabby Poulette, and Emerie Woods.

Rudene is proceeded in death by her parents, Earl and Joyce, one sister, Earlene Simmons, her twin brother Rudy Reeves, and cousin, David Rogers.

Sheila Ann Thompson, age 68 of Thayer, Missouri, passed away at her home on February 23, 2024. Sheila was born January 12, 1956, to William F. and Alice Deane (Melton) Thompson in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas.

Sheila graduated from Thayer High school in 1974 and graduated from SMS in 1977, in Springfield, Missouri, with an associate degree in accounting. She loved animals and taking care of the farm. She enjoyed being outdoors, spent hours in her garden and taking care of her flowers. She was an avid reader and spent a lot of time working on puzzles.

Above all Sheila loved her family and spending time with them, especially her nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

She is survived by her mother Alice of Thayer, Missouri; two brothers Billy Thompson of Thailand and Richard Thompson, wife Teri of Shreveport, Louisiana; special uncle and aunt David and Addie Melton of Thayer, Missouri; two special aunts Ruth Thompson of Kansas City, Missouri and Lucille Thompson Clarksville, Tennessee; nieces and nephews Eric Thompson, wife Andrea, Ben Thompson, wife Precious, Haley Thompson, Nathan Thompson, Ryley Thompson, Reagan Thompson, Karin Thompson and husband, Beverly Thompson and Mariah Bonner; seven great nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her father; one brother Robert Dean Thompson; and her grandparents.
