Betty Reynolds
Betty Reynolds

Betty Jane Ross Reynolds, daughter of the late Everett Ross and Theta Taylor Ross, was born April 20, 1937 at Alton, Missouri and entered into eternal rest August 24, 2012 in West Plains, Missouri at the age of seventy-five years.

She was united in marriage June 19, 1955 in Alton, Missouri to the man of her dreams, Bennie Ray Reynolds, who preceded her in death on December 25, 2009.

She is survived by four daughters, Billie Rae Henley and husband Rick, Jonesboro, Arkansas; Darlene Post and husband Steve, Cassville, Missouri; Janie King and husband Richard, West Plains, Missouri and Jo Ann Roberts and husband Steve, Violet Hill, Arkansas; ten grandchildren, Jason Hollis and Kim, Jessica DeWitt and Dr. J.T. DeWitt, Taylor Bearden, Shelbi Bearden, Ravonne Post, Ryan Post and Corie, Ashley Harper and Scott, Marcia Roberts, Candi Morgan and Mike, and Allen Roberts and Hope; 18 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Theta Ross; her husband, Ray; one great-granddaughter, Braylee Ann Harper; three brothers, Carson, Don and Jerry Ross and special nephews, Jerry and Keith Rogers.

Betty was a graduate of Alton High School, graduating as Valedictorian of the Class of 1955 and became a member of the “Gang of 55.” She was employed by the shirt factory, Top Value Gift Store and Farm & Home Ranch Supply. She later was employed by Contel Telephone Company which she enjoyed most in her working career and claimed each of the “telephone boys” as her boys. Betty was a former member of the Thayer Saddle Club and Missouri Fox Trotting Horse Association.

The joy of her life was raising four daughters and spoiling the grandkids and great-grandkids. Her sons-in-law were the sons she never had. She deeply cherished their love, support and devotion to the family.

Betty was a member of the Thayer Free Will Baptist Church and could best be described as a devoted wife, a loving and caring mother, grandmother and friend. She will truly be missed by all.

Funeral services for Mrs. Reynolds will be Monday, August 27, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri with Brother Richard Robinson officiating. Burial will be in the Thayer Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Sunday, August 26th, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Alton Alumni Association and left at the Funeral Home.

To the family of Ray and Betty, just unreal they are gone, such caring people and so loved by so many. Betty brought food to Phyllis and Boyds when my sister passed. Kindness will never be forgotten, we can only pass it on. My sympathy to all of you.
