Mary Ida Lillian Newberry

Lillian Newberry was born November 17, 1925 to Orville Rice and Lottie (Strong) Rice and died September 7, 2019 at the age of ninety-three years, nine months and twelve days.

She married Sherman Newberry on April 30, 1949. She was a member of the Church of Christ for well over seventy years.

Lillian is survived by three children, Alfred Newberry and wife, Diane, of Harrison, Arkansas, Kathleen Stephens and husband, Larry, of Strafford, Missouri, and Darrell Newberry, of Moody, Missouri; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Stephens of Los Altos, California; Tim Stephens and wife, Strausie of Springfield, Missouri; Rachel Smith and husband, Taylor, of Joplin, Missouri; Hannah Newberry of Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Mary Newberry of Harrison, Arkansas; four great granddaughters, Tara and Kira Pande of Los Altos, California; Rosie Smith of Joplin, Missouri; Ila Rose Stephens of Springfield, Missouri; one sister, Lenora Campbell of Mountain Home, Arkansas. She also has many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Sherman; her parents; two sisters and two brothers.

Visitation will be Saturday, September 14, 2019 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Moody Church of Christ, Moody, Missouri.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Moody Cemetery at 3:30 p.m., with cousin Marvin Rickett officiating, under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc., West Plains.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, and can be left at Carter Funeral Home, West Plains.

Jessilee Sanders

Jessilee Sanders was born November 23, 1927, in Myrtle, Missouri, the daughter of Albert J. and Myrtle (Risner) Stubblefield and passed away September 2, 2019 at National Health Care in West Plains, Missouri.

She was united in marriage on September 21, 1946 at Thayer, Missouri to Oren E. Sanders, who preceded her in death March 24, 2016, after sixty-nine years of marriage. Two children were born to this union, Edward Sanders and Donna Sanders.

Jessilee grew up in the Myrtle, Missouri community and graduated from Couch High School in 1943. She and Oren lived in Thayer, Missouri, Alton, Missouri, and West Plains, Missouri. She worked as the secretary of Richards R-V School for twenty-four years, retiring in 1989. She was very active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1825 Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of the West Plains First Baptist Church. She considered her best job was being a good grandmother and great grandmother.

She is survived by one son, Edward Sanders of Memphis, Tennessee; two grandsons, Brian Sanders and wife Amanda of Fort Worth, Texas and Mark Sanders of Wichita, Kansas; two great grandchildren, Ross Sanders of Fort Worth, Texas and Brittany Sanders of Fort Worth, Texas; two step-grandchildren, Elizabeth Mall Auterman of Memphis, Tennessee and Andrew Mall of Memphis, Tennessee; two step-great-grandchildren, Taylor Peet of Fort Worth, Texas and Haydn Peet of Fort Worth, Texas; two nieces, Dianne Lawrence and husband, Jim, of Couch Missouri and Debra Stubblefield Easley and husband, Brent, of West Plains, Missouri; two nephews, David Stubblefield and wife Kelly, of Alton, Missouri and Allen Sanders of Couch, Missouri; mother of grandsons, Shirley Young and husband Gary, of Derby, Kansas; sister-in-law, Wilda Stubblefield of Alton, Missouri; son-in-law, Mike Hayes of West Plains, Missouri, and special friend, Jeanne Osborn of West Plains, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her spouse; one daughter, Donna Sanders Hayes; one brother Joe Stubblefield; father-in-law, Roberts Sanders, Sr. and mother-in-law, Minnie Sanders; two brothers-in-law, Carl Sanders and Robert Sanders, Jr.; two sisters-in-law, Francis Sanders and Vesta Sanders; daughter-in-law, Barbara H. Sanders, and one niece Maribeth Stubblefield.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 7, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at Carter Funeral Home Chapel, West Plains, Missouri.

There will be a short visitation on Saturday, September 7, 2019 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Carter Funeral Home Chapel, West Plains.

Funeral services for Orval Lowe Barks, 81, West Plains, Missouri, will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, September 6, 2019, at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel, West Plains, with Brother Bill Bales officiating under the direction of Carter Funeral Home Inc., West Plains.

He was born the son of the late Clarence Raymond Barks and Flora Wheat Barks, on February 2, 1938 in Howell County, Missouri and died September 3, 2019 in West Plains, Missouri.

He was united in marriage to Helen Peaker and to this union, four children were born, Michael James Barks, Hubert Ray Barks, Timothy Lynn Barks, and Verlin G. Barks. He later married Geneva Skaggs on April 23, 2011 in Winona, Missouri.

He is survived by his wife, Geneva Skaggs Barks, of the home, West Plains, Missouri; three children, Michael James Barks, Hubert Ray Barks and wife, Cindy, and Timothy Lynn Barks and wife, Karen; two step-sons, Matt Day and Gene Day and wife, Caroline; two step-daughters, Darlene Horst and husband Phil and Lavada Kester and partner, Mike; one daughter-in-law, Mary Bowen; one sister, Mildred Warren and husband Verdon; one brother, Melvin Barks and wife Mary Ann; fourteen grandchildren, Lori Barks and husband, Chris; Chantell Lambert and husband, Corey; Jason Collins; Chris Barks; Bradley Barks and wife Moria; Cody Willbanks; Jason Willbanks; Dalton Day; Courtney Day; Josh Davis; Joe Norris; Allie Harris; Justin Horst, and Michelle Dawn Redmond; ten great grandchildren, Latisha, Iran, Kylar, Tristyn, McKenzie, Drew, Haley, Cayson, Allie, and Liam and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Verlin G. Barks; three brothers, Kenneth Barks, Vanis Barks, and Trueal Barks; four sisters, Mary Collins, Ona Owens, Dora Gregory, and Lois Barks.

He was an avid truck driver for Marathon Electric for many years. He loved to coon hunt, fish, and spend time with his family and friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday, September 5, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home Chapel, West Plains.

Burial will be in New Liberty Cemetery, Howell County, Missouri, under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc., West Plains.

Betty Jo Rogers

Betty Rogers was born in Myrtle, Missouri, the daughter of Jake Reynolds and Nellie Brewer Reynolds on April 4, 1931 and departed this life on August 27, 2019 at Southfork River Therapy and Living in Salem, Arkansas, at the age of 88 years.

She was united in marriage to Ralph Rogers in Salem, Arkansas on July 30, 1951. He preceded her in death on March 13, 2018.

She is survived by her two daughters, Linda Ward and husband, Mike, of Koshkonong, Missouri and Marla Rogers of Maumelle, Arkansas; one sister, Ruth Clark of Shelbyville, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Allison Bouland and husband, Brad, of Jonesboro, Arkansas and Kim Anne Fleissner of Rockton, Illinois; four great grandchildren, Darby and Colby Bouland and Hannah and Gunther Fleissner; many nieces and nephews; other relatives; and countless friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; her parents, Jake and Nellie Reynolds; two sons, Jerry and Keith Rogers; and two brothers, Jimmy and Ray Reynolds.

Besides being a devoted homemaker, Betty was employed by Carter Funeral Home in Thayer, giving over twenty years of dedicated service. She was a 1950 graduate of Thayer High School and enjoyed attending her class reunions.

She loved camping, traveling, working in her flower garden and was an excellent cook. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

Betty will be remembered as a loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister and a friend to all. She will truly be missed by all that knew her.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri with Brother Harvey Allen officiating.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 30, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri.

Interment will be held at the Thayer Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer, Missouri.

Everett was born July 17, 1945 in Howell County, Missouri, the son of Hugh Ecton and Winnie Jackson Tracy.

Survivors include, two children, Jeffrey Wayne Jackson and wife, Angela, West Plains, and Deanna Sue Frazier and husband, Donny, Vanzant, Missouri; two brothers; four grandchildren, and one great granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two grandchildren and two brothers.

Marjorie Brawley

Marjorie Lynn Brawley was born in Muskegon, Michigan, the daughter of Robert Thue and Mary Kesteloot Thue on December 23, 1960 and departed this life on August 21, 2019 at Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains, Missouri, at the age of 58 years.

She was united in marriage to Hubert Brawley in Liberty, Missouri on September 3, 1983. They spent almost thirty-six wonderful years together.

She is survived by her husband, Hubert Brawley of the home, in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; two children, Justin Brawley and wife, Kara, of Lathrop, Missouri and Melissa Toomey and husband, Matthew, of Kearney, Missouri; one sister, Suzanne Hosler and husband, Ron, of Muskegon, Michigan; five grandchildren, Hayden, Isaiah, Isabella, Hadley and Tiana; many nieces and nephews; other relatives; and countless friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mary Thue.

Marjorie was a Christian and of the Catholic faith. She spent many dedicated years as a Loan Office Manager at City Financial Bank in Kansas City, Missouri. After moving to this area, she was employed by the Beverage Shoppe in Thayer, Missouri.

She enjoyed spending time in the sunshine, tending to her garden and making beautiful flower arrangements. She also enjoyed time spent on the beach. Marjorie was an excellent cook and loved spending her Sundays cooking big meals for her family and friends.

Marjorie will be remembered as a loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister and a friend to all. She will truly be missed by all that knew her.

An Educational Fund has been opened at Simmons Bank in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas for her grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri with Bernard Toomey officiating.

Otis Butler

Otis Lee Butler was born the son of Harold Otis Butler and Ola Venita Hutson Butler, on August 21, 1946 in Koshkonong, Missouri and departed this life on August 19, 2019 at his home in Koshkonong, Missouri at the age of 72 years.

He was united in marriage on February 6, 1976 to Karen Sue Daniel in Springfield, Missouri. Together they had a blended family and spent forty-three wonderful years together.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Butler, of the home in Koshkonong, Missouri; five children, Michael Butler and wife, Maureen, of South Fork, Missouri, Traci Jenkins French of Temple, Texas, Ryan Jenkins and wife, Lorie, of Thayer, Missouri, Jennifer Hicks and husband, Justin, of West Plains, Missouri and Cory Butler and fiancé, Leigh Ann, of Koshkonong, Missouri; one son-in-law, Randy Nelson of West Plains, Missouri; one sister, Carolyn Staley and husband, Ernest, of Koshkonong, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Carolyn Sue Butler of Koshkonong, Missouri; two brothers-in-law, Jerry Daniel and wife, Lora, of Creighton, Missouri and Larry Daniel of Ash Grove, Missouri; fifteen grandchildren, Brandi, Mason, Jared, Eric, Dagean, Jessica, Ashley, Nick, Amanda, Joshua, Levi, Trevor, Cameron, Lane and Mattie; three great grandchildren, Madisyn, Keyden and Caysen; several nieces and nephews; many cousins; other relatives and countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Ola Venita Butler; one daughter, Patricia Nelson; and two brothers, Lester and Richard Butler.

Otis was a veteran of the United States Army National Guard, serving his country proudly as a military police officer for many years. He later worked as the City of Thayer Special Road Commissioner, retiring after thirty-one years of dedicated service. He was also a successful cattle rancher, raising and producing cattle and hay.

Otis enjoyed living life on his farm, going to the lake to fish and hunting all sorts of game, including coon, pheasant, deer and turkey. Most of all, he loved and cherished time spent with his family.

Otis will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and a friend to all. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 23, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Charles Cochran officiating.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 22, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment will be held at Shiloh Grand Gulf Cemetery in Thayer, Missouri with arrangements under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer, Missouri.

Jeanette Pentecost, 82, West Plains, Missouri, died August 10, 2019 at West Vue Nursing Home in West Plains, Missouri.

Jeanette is survived by five children, Gregory Pentecost, wife, Julie, St. Louis, Missouri; Ronald Pentecost, wife, Theresa, Lake Suzy, Florida; Janet Graham and husband, John, West Plains, Missouri; Robin Pentecost, St. Peters, Missouri, and George Pentecost, West Plains, Missouri; several siblings; one daughter-in-law, Shu-Chaun; twelve grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Dorman Buck and Georgia Smith Buck; one son, Dorman Pentecost and three deceased siblings.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
