    Glenda Naomi Orahood, 90, of Nixa, Missouri, formerly of Thayer, Missouri, passed away on November 22, 2025, in Springfield, Missouri. She was born on January 11, 1935, in Thayer, Missouri, to Livingston Hoy Langley and Esther Rolen Langley.

    On October 3, 1954, Glenda married the love of her life, Paul Albert Orahood, in Thayer. They shared 39 years of marriage until his passing in December of 1993.

    Glenda was talented and creative. She loved to paint in watercolor and acrylics, and devoted many hours to sewing and quilting. She loved flowers and gardening, a joy she brought to her community through the flower shop she owned and operated for 25 years. Her son and his wife continued her legacy by running the shop for another 25 years. Glenda was also an avid supporter of Thayer Athletics and as well as her Kansas City Chiefs. She rarely missed listening to the Thayer Bobcats on KCountry95. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Thayer and supported the church through her faithful services and voice. Her greatest pleasure, however, was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were her world.

    She is preceded in death by her parents, Livingston Hoy Langley and Esther Rolen Langley, and her beloved husband, Paul Albert Orahood.

    Glenda is survived by her children, Herb Orahood and wife Melodi, and Susan Raynor and husband John “Eric”; grandchildren, Cicily Eubank and husband Jay, Brad Orahood and wife Emily, Gaston Orahood and Dr. Kayette Glass, Emily Davis and husband Zachary, and Jack Raynor and wife Blythe; great-grandchildren, Ashton, Sophia, Lydia, Ella, Jack, Emersyn, and Lilly; her brother, Doyle Langley; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

“Though she is gone, the love she gave us remains a beautiful reminder of her presence in our lives. “

    LaVerne Paul “Barney” Pessman, age 77, of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, passed away on June 9th, 2025, in the comfort of his home.

    Barney was born on December 6th, 1947, in Morrison, Illinois, to parents  Allen Pessman and Anna Houzenga. He was employed by the Fulton Corporation for 25 years. Beyond his long-term career, Barney was a talented self-taught designer and contractor-often referring to himself as an “amateur architect.” He enjoyed designing, renovating, and flipping houses, and took great pride in the details of his work. Barney also enjoyed traveling and was an avid car enthusiast.

    He is survived by his wife, Penny; his brother Dwayne; sister, Irene, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

    He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Lauren and his sister, Judy.

A Memorial Visitation was held at the Bosma- Renkes Funeral Home of Fulton, Illinois on Saturday, August 9, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

 Family will host a Memorial Service on Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the Faith Baptist Church of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas.

    Phyllis E. Henry, 76, a cherished mother, grandmother, and skilled artisan of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2025, in Thayer, Missouri.

    Born on May 27, 1949, in Pueblo, Colorado, Phyllis was the daughter of Wilburn and Dorothy Davis Rogers. She carried the lessons of her upbringing throughout her life, grounding her family in faith and love. She married Virgil “Garry” Henry on May 28, 1969, and together they raised four children: Danny Virgil Henry, Sandra Kaye Ruby, Dorothy Karen Brotemarkle, and Gary David Henry.

    Phyllis found joy and purpose in her hands, often blessing her family and friends with the fruits of her talents. She was an avid crocheter and quilter, creating beautiful, warm heirlooms that will comfort her loved ones for generations. Above all, her greatest happiness came from spending time with her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she tirelessly supported and showered with affection.

    She is survived by her loving children: David Henry, Laura Henry, Sandra Kaye Ruby, and Karen Brotemarkle (Darryl). She leaves a legacy of devotion in her eighteen grandchildren: Derrick and Jessica Henry, Taylor and Caleb Hollis, Justin and Beth Ruby, Shelby Henry, Jay Brotemarkle, Alayana and Forest Walsh, Johnathon Ruby, Stephine Henry, Jordan and Kim Ruby, Madison Henry, Trey Henry, and Kenzleigh Henry. Phyllis was also the proud great-grandmother to seven precious great-grandchildren and is remembered fondly by her many nieces, nephews and sister Velma Whiteside.

    Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Wilburn and Dorothy Rogers; her husband, Virgil “Garry” Henry; her son, Danny Henry; her brother, Mike Rogers; her son-in-law, Michael Ruby; sister-in-law, Kathy Rogers; and brother-in-law, Jim Whiteside.

Barbara Joan (Chezem) Lientz, daughter of the late Paul and Grace Chezem was born October 18, 1943 in Danville, Illinois, and passed away November 15, 2025 at the age of 82 in West Plains, Missouri.

She was united in marriage May 26, 1962, in Stone Bluff, Indiana, to Ken Lientz and they were married fifty-two years.

She is survived by three children, Brian Wesley Lientz and wife, Karey, Springfield, Missouri, Andrew David Lientz and wife, Melinda, Plant City, Florida, and Kendra Jo Cockrum, West Plains, Missouri; and three grandchildren, Shelise Lientz, Tampa, Florida, Deshia Ford and husband Ryan Ford, Edwards AF Base, California, and Chelsee Bryant and her husband Stephen Bryant, West Plains, Missouri, and five great grandchildren.

She and her husband, Ken Lientz, traveled many miles throughout the United States on their Honda Gold Wing motorcycle during their retirement. She also sang and wrote songs for several years with the Traveler’s Gospel Quartet while living in Texas and published a solo album titled “I’m Climbin’ Higher” in 1972.

Barb was an accomplished poet, songwriter, and a talented, self-taught pianist and accordionist.

She was known for her kindness, love of animals, especially her cats, and her sense of humor. She would light up the room with her presence and loved to spend time with her family who misses her every day.

    Virginia Rolen was born on November 13, 1938, in Newkirk, Oklahoma. She departed this life on Friday, November 14, 2025, at 3:59 p.m. at the age of 87 years old.

    She was united in marriage on April 28, 1957, in Thayer, Missouri to Ronald Richard Rolen. To this union, three children were born: Alice LaVese Ericksen (Kenny) of Gainesville, Missouri, DeLane Marie Rolen of Gainesville, Missouri and Hurschel Curtis Rolen (Leah) of Thayer, Missouri.

    Virginia worked in a variety of roles throughout her life. She worked as a bookkeeper, flower shop assistant and owned her own ink ribbon manufacturing business. She was also a devoted housewife.

    A woman of deep and enduring faith, Virginia was a devoted Christian and member of the First Baptist Church of Thayer, Missouri.

    Virginia is preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Richard Rolen, parents, Curtis Miles Williams and Juanita Mae (Foster) Williams, 3 brothers, Curtis Ray, Billy Lee and Bobby Lynn “Bob” Williams.

    Virginia is survived by her children, Alice LaVese Ericksen and husband Kenny of Gainesville, Missouri, DeLane Marie Rolen of Gainesville, Missouri and Hurschel Curtis Rolen and wife Leah of Thayer, Missouri: 2 grandchildren – Jurnee Marie Rolen of Thayer, Missouri and Hayden Curtis Rolen of Thayer, Missouri: 4 brothers – Alfred Gene Williams and wife Brenda of St Peters, Missouri, Harry (Stoney) Williams of Winona, Missouri, Ricky Williams of the Philippines and Ronnie Williams and wife Sharlene of Winona, Missouri: 3 sisters – Vicky Payne and husband Tim of Grand Bay, Alabama, Sharon Ann Macios of Columbia, Missouri and Teresa Sims of Birch Tree, Missouri and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 2pm.

A private inurnment will be at a later date at the Thayer Cemetery of Thayer, Missouri.

Flora Cordelia Shrum

For almost all of her almost 90 years, Flora Cordelia Shrum, born November 25, 1935, demonstrated to her family, friends, and community what it meant to be a loving caregiver. Flora tenderly cared for her parents, Andrew and Cordelia Wilburn, as they aged. When the love of her life, Clarance Shrum – with whom she was united in marriage in 1979 – suffered health issues, she drew upon their years of laughter and happiness to
attend to him. Flora showed her love in many ways including her wonderful meals, delicious desserts, beautiful afghans, and creative birthday cakes. Flora loved to laugh, and she happily shared the abundance of her gardens with family, friends, and neighbors. Her family and friends will always remember her for her selfless manner and the care she
provided.

Flora was born on the family farm November 25, 1935. She joined older siblings Lloyd, Floyd, and Retha. Siblings Hayden and Lois were lost in childhood. She was very proud of the high school diploma she earned through a correspondence course after she left school to work in her brother’s general store. When she moved to St. Louis, she worked for Prince Gardner for many years, but after their marriage, she and Clarance moved back to Alton where they were the happiest. While Flora did not have children of her own, she embraced Clarance’s daughters, Rosia Wilburn and Shirley Groves, and their families as her own. Her nieces and nephews span four generations, and Flora was adept at remembering birthdays and special occasions for all of those dear to her. The last years of her life were spent in companionship with her beloved sister, Retha. Faith was a key piece of Flora’s life. She had a large church family, and made many life-long friends through her church work.

Flora died peacefully on November 5, 2025, at the age of 89. Flora asked to be cremated and her remains will be buried at Many Springs Cemetery in Alton, Missouri, next to her dear husband Clarance.     Zackary Austin Komm, son of Fred and Dionne Komm was born on May 5, 1999, in Klamath Falls, Oregon. He arrived in Missouri at the age of 6 and joined the Komm family through adoption. Zack was an outgoing child who enjoyed the outdoors and especially fishing. After high school he graduated from Tulsa Welding School and was employed as a welder. From childhood until adulthood his hobbies remained the same, the outdoors and his love for fishing.

    Zack is survived by his parents Fred and Dionne Komm of Thayer, Missouri, brothers Colton, Nick and his children Will, Hattie, and Zeke Komm all of Thayer, Missouri, sister Tammy Brewer, husband Garrett, and their two children of Sparta, Missouri, Grandparents Dennis, and Dowlene Brazeal of Thayer, Missouri, Frankie Komm of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, great grandmother Mary Harmon of Thayer, Missouri, special cousin who is like a grandma to us all, Ann Komm of East Peoria, Illinois, many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

    Zack is preceded in death by his great grandpa Eugene Harmon, grandpa figure and special cousin Edd Komm Jr., and grandpa Don Komm.

Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, November 8, 2025, 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Thayer, Missouri and will be hosted by the family. 

Services will be officiated by Fr Mathew Naduchirayil. Inurnment will be at the Thayer Cemetery of Thayer, Missouri on November 8, 2025.

Louella Simpson Cox was born October 13, 1928 on the family farm near Alton, Missouri. She was the oldest child of Lewis A.W. and Ella Blankenship Simpson. She died on November 4th, 2025 in the West Vue Greenhouses.

Louella was married to Ralph Cox on January 3, 1947. Before she married, she taught for a year in a two room schoolhouse in the Irish Wilderness. Early in her marriage, she worked as a florist in Thayer, making wedding and funeral flowers out of their garage. They moved to West Plains in 1961.

Lou enjoyed nature, travel, reading cookbooks, growing geraniums, and having a good meal. Her trips included many areas of the US, Hawaii. Western Europe, and Russia, but her favorite place was her own backyard.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Ella Simpson, and her husband, Ralph Cox. She is survived by one daughter, Mary Jo (Jody) Verrengia (Tom) of Miami, Florida. One brother, Nelson Simpson of Alton, a double cousin, Gary Simpson of Alton, a brother and sister-in-law, Johnny and Barbara Cox of Thayer, and nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ralph and Lou Cox Nursing Scholarship at MSU, 128 Garfield Avenue, West Plains, MO.

There will be a visitation on Saturday, November 8th from 4:00-6:00 at Carter Funeral Home in West Plains.

A graveside service for family will be held later.

Barbara Louise Edwards, 95, West Plains, Missouri, passed away October 31, 2025 at Ozarks Health Center, West Plains, Missouri.

She was born January 16, 1930 in Bellflower, Missouri to the late Durwood Eugene Edwards and Ruth “Copenhagen” Edwards.

She is survived by three children, Martha Yarbrough and husband Chris, West Plains, Missouri, Kathleen Koppitz and husband Richard, Springfield, Missouri, and Deborah Romans and husband Charlie, West Plains, Missouri; one brother, Glenn Edwards and wife Ruth Ann Edwards, Ozark, Missouri; two sisters, Genola Hawkins and husband Bill, Troy, Missouri, and Phyllis Rupp, Bolivar, Missouri; ten grandchildren, Michelle, Melinda, Bryan, Christopher, Matthew, Chris, Julie, Haven, Heath, and Sky; several great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, plus many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Dudley Edwards; the father of her children, Richard Dyer; one brother, Eugene Edwards and two sisters, Drusilla Edwards and Jean Edwards.

She worked on their farm for many years, right up until a few years before she passed away. She did all the things necessary that were to be done on a farm, including bushhogging, and all at the age of 90 plus. She had a strong love of horses that will live on in her children and grandchildren.

She will be missed greatly by all the people who knew and loved her.

Funeral services for Barbara Louise Edwards will be Saturday, November 8, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home Chapel.

There will be a visitation time from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.

Burial will held at Howell Valley Cemetery, Howell County, Missouri, under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc., West Plains.
