Amy “Lorene” Adams (nee’ Hatman) went to be home with her Savior Jesus Christ on December 20,2020 at the age of 98. She passed at the Alden Estates of Northmoor in Chicago, Illinois where she resided. The staff there provided her with excellent, compassionate care. They often spoke to family about her sense of humor, her great story telling and her spunkiness. She often gave them reasons to laugh with her. The family sends a special thank-you to all who cared for her.

Lorene was born on May 11, 1922 in Salem, Arkansas to Edmond Ray and Manda Elizabeth (nee’ Charlton) Hatman. She married Howard Russell Adams on March 25,1939. They started their married life in Thayer, Missouri and then moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

In 1951 they moved to Chicago, Illinois and raised their 4 children Edward Russell, Nadine, Archie Howard, and Jerry Wayne. A stillborn son was buried in Missouri. Lorene was a homemaker.

When her husband retired from Finkle and Sons in 1978 they returned to Thayer, Missouri, the region where they both were born and raised, to enjoy retirement together. Howard died unexpectantly on November 9,1982. They spent 43 married years together. She never stopped talking about him.

Lorene moved back to Chicago in 2011 where she lived with her daughter Nadine and son-in-law, Jerry. In 2013 the signs of Alzheimer’s disease could not be ignored, and she moved into Alden Estates Nursing Home until her death.

Lorene is survived by her 3 children, Nadine (Jerry) Kuykendall of Chicago, Illinois, Archie Howard (Gayle) Adams of Nashville, Tennessee, and Jerry Wayne (Judith) Adams of Scottsdale, Arizona.

She was blessed with 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. She had many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents (Edmond and Manda), her husband (Howard), her sons, (Baby Boy Adams and Edward Russell) and her 6 brothers and sisters.

Lorene will be buried next to her well-loved husband Howard in Koshkonong, Missouri. The Reverend Todd Williams will officiate at the gravesite. Her niece, Sis, will represent the family.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, January 5, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Koshkonong Cemetery in Koshkonong, Missouri with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer, Missouri.

A memorial service will be held in the Spring of 2021 with details to follow. At that time, the family will gather to remember her and celebrate her life.

In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Alzheimer Association @act.alz.org. or mail to 225 N. Michigan Ave. Floor 17 Chicago, IL 60601 or call 800-272-3900.

Loved this lady. My friends always ask why I run around with the older ladies her & Dee. Reba & Rita but they were so much fun. Told everyone that when I grew up I hoped I was half the person they were. Ladies that everyone enjoyed when they walked in. Beautiful lady. Honored to have known her.

I loved Lorene and enjoyed her sense of humor and being her friend. During the time I was her caregiver, Lorene shared years of her life and fun times..When her days at her home were no longer an option, Nadine began caring for her in her home .I always admired what a loving and caring family Lorene was blessed to have . God bless ..

My Gramma had spunk. She wasn’t going to be pushed around and you always knew what she thought. She loved red, and pretty costume jewelry, and manicured nails. She liked how my Mom styled her hair best.
I loved her laugh and her stories. She never found another Grandpa for me although she always said she would- even at 97. I hope you’re with your first love now Gramma.
    Love Linda

I did not know that Lorene had passed until I saw her obituary tonight. When we bought the house that Lorene lived in, we were only able to buy it if we promised to let her continue to live there. We gladly made the promise and were able to enjoy 27 years with her as our renter and more importantly as our friend. She indeed was a spunky lady and fun to visit with. We missed her greatly when she moved to Chicago but it was so good to know that she had a loving family to take care of her. We send our condolences to her family.

My name is Aline (Frealy) Rogers and I barely remember Loreen as I was only about 4 years old. She was a year older than my mother. I also remember playing with Eddie Russel and Nadine before my parents (Gene and Agnes Frealy) moved out east of Kosh on the old Stony Point Road. I don’t remember Archie and Jerry. Then they all moved away and by the time they came back, I had moved away. I was around Loreen’s sister Nadine a bit when I was in my teens. Strange how the old memories come back to you. I have thought of your family often. My condolences on the loss of your mother. We lost Dad in 1995 and Mother in 2009.
