Amos Wayne Watson was born the son of Amos William Watson and Mary Catherine (Perkins) on September 1, 1925 in Koshkonong, Missouri; and departed this life June 5, 2021; at his home in Overland Park, KS at the age of 95 years.

He was united in marriage on May 31, 1947, to Jacqueline Pierce in Thayer, MO and spent 74 years enjoying life with the love of his life.

Amos is survived by his wife, Jacqueline (Pierce) Watson of the home in Overland Park, KS; six children, Catherine Watson, Overland Park, KS, Carolyn Simpson, Overland Park, KS, Peggy Kingsley and significant other Donnie Anderson, Bonner Springs, KS, Steven Watson and significant other Marsha, Thayer, MO, Norma Duncan and husband James, Ozark, MO, and Keith Watson, Aurora CO; two brothers, Waymon Watson and wife Ruth, Thayer, MO and Gene Watson and wife Marsha, Belton, MO; one sister, Ruth Herring, Branson, MO; twelve grandchildren; Clint Simpson and wife Amber, Denny Frazier and husband John Hale, Eric Watson, Heather Duncan and significant other Brett, Jeffrey Huddleston, Nick Watson and significant other Sara, Jennifer (Duncan) Langston and significant other John, Melissa (Huddleston) Parent and wife Chris, Matthew Watson and wife Aurora, Jacqueline (Duncan) Roberts and husband Aaron, Miriah (Duncan) Lewis and husband Mike, and Alexis Duncan and fiancé Josh Aksamit; fifteen great grandchildren, Madison (Simpson) Shull and husband Brett, Tyler Simpson, Colton Ford, Cody Ford, Chris Simers, Isabella Langston, Caine Gerdes, Madison Watson, Mackenzie Simers, Lillian Duncan, Noah Gerdes, Peyton Huddleston, Anson Thomas, Ella Lewis and Lincoln Roberts; two great-great grandchildren Macklyn Shull, Easton Shull and two babies due this year; other relatives; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Linda Huddleston; ten brothers and sisters, Ella Crews, Elvin Watson, Lucille Brewer, Leta Watson, Naomi Holman, Viola Ganley, Ray Watson, Carl Watson, Marie Keltner and Alice Watson.

Amos was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather.  He always made sure his family’s needs were met.  He loved spending time with his family. 

Amos grew up in Koshkonong, MO where he worked on the family farm helping with general farm chores to raise crops and some livestock.  He drove a tractor and a team of horses to pull farm machinery to make ties from the timber to sell.

In April 1944 he joined the U.S. Army and served during World War II.  He was trained as a Medical Technician and served at the General Hospital in Iwo Jima.  He served thirteen months in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre.  During his military service, he was awarded several medals including a Ribbon with a Bronze Star. He had an Honorable Discharge in April 1946.

Amos worked as a farmer in his early married life delivering milk.  He worked for the State of Missouri and Oregon County as a heavy equipment operator using a grader on the Thayer Special road crew.  He later moved to Overland Park, KS and worked for Hanrahan Asphalt as a heavy equipment operator.  He retired from Hanrahan Asphalt after 25 years.  During retirement he enjoyed gardening, caring for his yard and spending time with his family.  He will be greatly missed.

Graveside services for Amos Wayne Watson. age 95, of Overland Park, Kansas will be held on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Thayer Cemetery in Thayer, Missouri.

Burial will be on Thursday, June 10, 2021 in Thayer Cemetery in Thayer, Missouri with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer, Missouri.
