Johnnie Harold Marler was born on March 13, 1931 in Oklahoma, the son of John Marler and Arizona Smith Marler, and passed away on September 11, 2021 at Ozarks Healthcare in West Plains, Missouri at the age of 90.

He was united in marriage to Pearl Othela Trogdon on July 5, 1950 in Marshall, Arkansas.

Johnnie is survived by his wife of 71 years, Othela Marler of the home in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; one son, Jimmy Marler and wife Jennifer of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; one grandson, Jonathon Marler and wife Shelia of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; one granddaughter, Jill Wright and husband C.J. of Madison, Mississippi; one great granddaughter, Allie Jo Marler of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; one sister-in-law, Annalee Still of St. Joe, Arkansas; one brother-in-law, David Trogdon and wife Linda of St. Joe, Arkansas; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Zoni Marler; five brothers, Truman, Cliff, Troy, Carl, and Vernon Marler; two sister, Ruby Farell and Wilma Hoskins; and one granddaughter, Jenny Marler.

After graduating from high school in 1950, Johnnie became a dairy farmer.  After getting out of the dairy business, Johnnie went into business with his son Jimmy where they laid native stone for many years.  In the early 1980’s, Johnnie and Jimmy started a hiking stick business.  Although retiring at age 62, Johnnie continued working in the cane shop part time.  During this time, he made nine fiddles.  Johnnie was a very skilled craftsman.

Johnnie was a Christian.

He loved to hunt and fish, but especially enjoyed bow hunting.  He was one of the first men in this area to get a deer with a recurve bow.  He passed bow hunting on to his son Jimmy.

He will be truly missed by his family and friends.  

Graveside services for Johnnie Harold Marler will be held on Monday, September 13, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas with Erman Crony officiating.

Burial will be on Monday, September 13, 2021 at Riverside Cemetery in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Convoy of Hope.
