Mary June Johnson was born the daughter of the late George Reece Smith and Gladys (Consalus) Smith, on June 17, 1924 in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas and departed this life on April 5, 2019 in West Plains, Missouri at the age of 94.

She was united in marriage on March 11, 1939 in Alton, Missouri to Harold W. Johnson.

She is survived by two sons, Joe Johnson and Jack Johnson, both of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; three daughters, Pat Hilton of Thayer, Missouri, Shirley Garner and husband, Dave, and Sherrie Keylon, all of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; eight grandchildren, Patti Clark, Jennifer Collins-Merck, Tim Johnson, Tony Johnson, Tracy Jones, Shelly King, Dane Johnson and Sarah Johnson; eighteen great grandchildren and seventeen great-great grandchildren (plus two on the way); several nieces and nephews; many cousins; other relatives and countless friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Peggy A. Edwards; one grandson, Kelly Keylon; two brothers, Earl and Norman Smith; son-in-law, Joe M. Hilton; and daughter-in-law, Pam Johnson.

June was a very hard worker. She worked alongside her husband Harold, farming for many years, having both a dairy and beef cattle operation while also working as a seamstress at the Puritan Dress Factory and later a salesclerk at The Beverage Shoppe in Thayer, Missouri.

She was the happiest when she had all of her family together and would frequently have large gatherings in her home. She also enjoyed embroidering and crocheting and spent numerous hours sitting in her recliner making “special gifts” for her family.

June was the kindest, loving and giving mother and grandmother and the “center of strength” for her entire family. She was such a pleasant and friendly lady, who always welcomed family and friends when they entered her door and she had such a memorable laugh. She will truly be missed by all that knew and loved her.

June was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas.

Family will receive friends on Sunday, April 7, 2019 from 1:00 to 2:30 PM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 PM at the Riverside Cemetery in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas with arrangements under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer, Missouri.
