Mary Jane Exum

Mary Jane Exum was born the daughter of Joseph L. Murphy and Mary Frances Dodson Murphy on February 11, 1942, in Lovejoy, Georgia, and departed this life March 18, 2018, at her home in Koshkonong, Missouri, at the age of 76 years.

She was united in marriage on September 24, 1966, in Hampton, Georgia, to Grady Exum.

She is survived by her husband, Grady Exum of the home in Koshkonong, Missouri; one son, Shannon Lee Exum and wife, Tonia of Alton, Missouri; one daughter, Benita Dawn Holman and husband, Mark of Alton, Missouri; six grandchildren, Ellie Sue Exum, Callie Jane Exum, Danielle Chronister and husband, Skyler, Carli Holman, Jennah Holman, Kaden Holman, all of Alton, Missouri; one sister, Bettye Jo Murphy of Lovejoy, Georgia; nieces and nephews; other relatives; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary Frances Murphy; two brothers, Luther Murphy and Tommy Murphy; and one sister, Sara Brock.

Mary Jane was a Christian lady and a member of the First Baptist Church in Koshkonong, where she had served as church pianist.

She loved her family dearly, and looked forward to their visits. She was an excellent cook and known for her delicious homemade biscuits and the best ever, banana pudding.

She was loved by many and will truly be missed by her family, church family, and the community in which she lived.

Funeral services  for Mrs. Exum will be held on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri with Brother Raymond Kazen and Brother Richard Story officiating.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 22, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. at the Carter Funeral Home in Thayer, Missouri.

Interment with be in Jolliff Cemetery near Rover, Missouri with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her memory may be made to the Koshkonong First Baptist Church and may be left at the funeral home.
